Captain Louie
Wear your Halloween Costume to Our Newest Hit Show!
Captain Louie is a family musical based on the children’s book, The Trip by Caldecott Award winner Ezra Jack Keats, author of the beloved and beautifully illustrated, The Snowy Day. Jam-packed with songs by master theater composer Stephen Schwartz, composer of Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden and more, Captain Louie is an endearing story about a young boy on Halloween night who escapes into his own imagination as a means of coping with the loneliness he feels when he moves to a new neighborhood. Through a journey of self-discovery, Louie finds the courage to meet new friends while he maintains the precious long-term friendships he has cultivated in his old neighborhood.
Audiences are captivated by the songs and overall music of Captain Louie. With a winning career spanning four decades, the composer Stephen Schwartz has an impressive track record when it comes to family entertainment. For animated film features, he is known for his lyrics for Disney’s Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as his songs for The Prince of Egypt. For feature films, he most recently collaborated with Alan Menken on the songs for Disney’s Enchanted. In stage musicals, he is represented on Broadway by the hit musical Wicked, and wrote the scores for Godspell, Pippin, and many others.
Because most of the play takes place on Halloween night, young audience members are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes! Come early to the show! Before the show begins, young ticket-holders will have the opportunity to interact with the cast outside the theater at “fun stations,” featuring hop-scotch, face-painting, the “red light: green light game,” “Simon Says,” “charades,” and more! And as always, audiences are encouraged to meet the cast and get autographs after the show!
